We are looking for a Principal Engineer to help shape the technical direction for Quick's agent platform — the systems that let people build, run, and trust AI agents at enterprise scale. This team owns the agent and workflow authoring experiences (including natural-language and low-code creation for non-technical builders), the cloud runtime that executes agents and agentic workflows at scale, and the identity, governance, and safety layers that make agents enterprise-ready. You will define the multi-year architecture across these areas and set the engineering bar as the platform expands across regions and surfaces.
This is a high-impact role at the intersection of agentic AI infrastructure, platform engineering, and enterprise trust.
What Makes This Role Unique
• End-to-end platform ownership: You'll own the full stack — from builder-facing authoring tools down through agent runtime and orchestration to identity, governance, and safety — rather than a single service or component.
• Category-defining architecture: Agent identity, governance, and accessibility for non-technical builders are still being defined. You'll shape the field, not just implement within it.
• Build, not maintain: The core platform is live and in customers' hands, but the hardest problems — enterprise-scale governance, autonomous agent safety, and truly accessible agent creation — are net-new. This is a hands-on building role.
• Enterprise scale with startup speed: The platform serves enterprise customers across multiple industries, running large volumes of concurrent agent sessions with strict availability, latency, and governance requirements — and the surface area is growing fast.
• Leadership multiplier: You'll be the senior technical voice partnering directly with senior leadership on multi-year direction, setting cross-team technical standards for how agents are built, evaluated, deployed, and operated across the org.
Key job responsibilities
• Architect and scale the cloud runtime that executes agents and agentic workflows reliably and cost-effectively — including session orchestration, tool and skill invocation, memory and context management, and multi-tenant isolation.
• Design agent identity, permissions, governance, and safety frameworks so that agents can act with increasing autonomy while staying within enterprise-defined trust boundaries.
• Drive the strategy for making agent, workflow, and app creation accessible to non-technical builders through natural-language and low-code experiences — without sacrificing power for advanced builders.
• Set cross-team technical standards and engineering bar for how agents are built, evaluated, deployed, and operated across the organization.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership — write code, run the hardest deep-dives, and lead by example through design reviews, code reviews, and technical guidance.
• Author technical narratives and design documents that align senior leadership and drive org-level architectural direction.
• Mentor and elevate engineering talent across the team; raise the technical bar through hands-on engagement and principled engineering standards.

Amazon Quick is one of the most strategic products at Amazon — a broad agentic AI surface spanning mobile, desktop, and web that is redefining how business users work. Within Quick, the Agents, Agentic Workflows & Apps Platform team builds the foundation that lets both engineers and non-technical builders create agents, compose them into multi-step workflows, and package them as applications — backed by the cloud infrastructure that runs those agents at scale and the identity, governance, and safety layers that make them enterprise-ready. We are building for scale and expanding rapidly across regions, surfaces, and industries. Basic Qualifications: • 10+ years of professional software development experience with at least one modern programming language
• 8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years leading the design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team
• Track record of delivering large-scale, highly available distributed systems and services
Preferred Qualifications: • 12+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Deep experience building and scaling cloud runtime or platform infrastructure for real-time, latency-sensitive workloads (multi-tenancy, orchestration, cost and reliability at scale)
• Strong API and platform design skills; ability to define and enforce engineering standards across an organization
• Experience with LLMs, agent frameworks, orchestration, or tool/skill-routing patterns
• Background in identity, policy engines, authorization, or trust and safety frameworks
• Experience making complex capabilities accessible to non-technical users (low-code / no-code, natural-language builders)
• Familiarity with workflow or orchestration engines, event-driven or serverless architectures
• Cross-platform experience (web, desktop, mobile) and enterprise SaaS (identity federation, SSO, admin controls)
• Prior experience in productivity software or consumer-facing AI products
• Excellent technical writing and the ability to align senior leadership through narratives and design documents
• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across a large engineering organization (200+ engineers)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
